Horse and Hound Challenge

The May issue of Horse and Hound carried an editorial criticising Dr Coleman's book Animal Rights Human wrongs, and condemning his mailing of this book (free) to 6,000 schools in the UK.

Dr Coleman sent the following letter to the Editor of Horse and Hound on the 2nd May 2001:

FOR PUBLICATION

Dear Editor

Everything I wrote in Animal Rights Human Wrongs is true. I am happy to debate the issue in public. Sadly, I suspect that those whom I have criticised will refuse to defend themselves against me. Perhaps this is because they know they will lose any debate and want to avoid the public embarrassment.

This challenge will appear on my website.

Yours sincerely

Vernon Coleman

PS Your readers who rang and abused my staff with obscene language might like to know that my staff took more calls from Horse and Hound readers supporting my point of view than they took from readers opposing it. As far as I am aware none of those who rang to criticise my book had actually read it. Incidentally, for the record, my staff now have instructions to record and trace abusive calls and then make the appropriate reports to the police. Horse and Hound Readers Made Abusive Calls should make a nice headline but I can't see it helping your 'cause' a great deal.
