Won The 2004 USA Presidential Election
How George W.Bush Won The 2004
USA Presidential Election Whatever other little tricks the Republicans may have
used (and I have no doubt that a good many will be revealed in coming months) it
is clear that Bush won the 2004 Presidential election for four simple
reasons.
First, the neo-con led Republications misled and terrified
millions of ignorant American voters. Vast numbers of Americans still believe
that Saddam Hussein was responsible for the 11th September attack on the USA.
Vast numbers believe that weapons of mass destruction were found and that the
war against Iraq has been won. The ignorance and stupidity of Americans cannot
be overestimated. Most Americans don't even know where Iraq is - let alone the
real reasons for the war. (Bin Laden's autumn 2004 pre election broadcast was
almost certainly deliberately designed to trick stupid Americans into voting for
Bush. The Islamic fundamentalists regard Bush as their most effective recruiting
sergeant.) George W.Bush would not be elected to a position on a local council
in any other country in the world. In America they make him President.
Twice.
Second, Bush's supporters ran the dirtiest campaign in American
history. When it seemed that John Kerry's record as a war hero might make him
appear a more suitable Commander-in-Chief than a criminal recidivist the
Republicans simply ran TV ads dishonestly claiming that Kerry had lied about his
war record. If you tell enough lies the truth gets forgotten. Modern American
politics is built upon smears and spin. And lies.
Third, although the
media seem to have ignored the fact, there was a third Presidential candidate in
the 2004 race for the White House. Ralph Nader never stood a chance of winning
but he did take 1% of the vote. Since Nader was the only decent, honest
candidate of the best known three applicants for the job of President, I have no doubt that the vast majority of that 1% came from voters who
might otherwise have supported Kerry. If Nader hadn't stood then Kerry would
have probably won. (As an aside, I still think Nader should have stood. He was
the only one of the three best known candidates who stood for honesty, liberty and truth. Kerry wasn't much
better than Bush.)
Fourth, and in my view most important of all, Bush won
the 2004 Presidential election because of a clever ballot box trick which has
been pretty well ignored by the media around the world. In eleven states -
including Ohio - Bush dragged bigoted, prejudiced evangelical Christian
fundamentalists into the polling stations by offering them a chance to vote
against gay marriage. It was the opportunity to cast a vote against gays which
drew these dangerously simple minded and prejudiced voters into the booths. And
while they were there - following the instructions of their rabid pulpit leaders
and voting against gay marriage - the American rednecks (many of whom would not
usually bother to vote in Presidential elections - probably because they found
the idea of having to hold a pen rather scary) thought they might as well vote
for their next President. Who would they vote for? Er. Either George W. Bush, an
evangelical Christian who was saving them from the Muslim threat and who himself
opposed gay marriages or John Kerry, a lily livered liberal who was known to be
supported by gay voters. Even the average American Christian fundamentalist
could work that one out. Especially when helped along by their local TV
preacher. George W.Bush got the huge anti-gay vote. And so got another four
years in the White House.
The BBC has hundreds, if not thousands, of
reporters and commentators covering the American election. Did you hear about
this crucial piece of trickery on any BBC programme?
So, America's
imperialist, isolationalist foreign policy will continue. With an aggressive,
arrogant President who will now believe that he can do whatever he likes,
wherever he wants to do it. The oil companies and the armament manufacturers
have won. More wars please. Where will the next Bush war be fought? Will he
invade Iran before Syria? How many British troops will be killed fighting those
neo-conservative wars?
It's going to get much worse before it gets
better.
