Support A Royal Pardon For The Metric Martyrs

Do you remember the four men who were persecuted for selling bananas (and other items) in imperial weights?

They stood firm, against the might of politicians and bureaucrats, to defend a small and important piece of our history.

The EU planned to force the UK to abandon feet, inches, miles, pounds, ounces and other imperial measurements.

Indeed, the Bureaucrats of Brussels planned to make it illegal for anyone even to mention these measurements.

Now, having realised belatedly that America uses imperial measurements, the EU is probably going to back down. It seems that to the Bureaucrats of Brussels, the `joy' of getting rid of the mile and the pound (and ridding Europe of another piece of English history) isn't worth losing American custom for European products.

So, since metrication is now being put on hold and imperial weights and measures are back in fashion, how about a pardon for the metric martyrs?

They deserve to be honoured for their fight - not stained with convictions they never deserved.
