Yet More Proof That
Gordon Brown Is An Idiot
Vernon Coleman
The Government's childcare vouchers scheme is a bizarre
disaster and is yet another example of Gordon Brown's blisteringly glaring
incompetence.
The voucher scheme exists to allow parents tax relief on
childcare costs of up to £55 a week.
But the relief isn't just offered on
Government registered childminders or nurseries. Any form of supervised activity
that isn't provided during compulsory school hours qualifies for the vouchers
and an individual is officially a child until the September following their 15th
birthday.
The result is that this stupid, stupid scheme allows parents to
claim tax relief on piano lessons and tennis lessons. Even skiing lessons count
for tax relief.
And since both parents can apply, households can claim
£55 x 2 x 52 in tax relief. For higher rate taxpayers that means that other
taxpayers are paying £2,390 per family for piano and tennis lessons.
Is
that really what Brown intended?
If so then the man is an
idiot.
If it isn't what he intended then he is still an idiot.
