‘Oh surely not!’ said my acquaintance. ‘They know how unpopular they are. The whole organisation is mortally wounded.’

I shook my head. ‘Not a bit of it,’ I told him. ‘The EU is - like any wounded animal - more dangerous than ever. In fact, much of the new Constitution - the one which was rejected by the French and the Dutch - has already been implemented and turned into law. And the rest of it will now shortly be slipped through by the Commission. The EU isn’t dead. It’s easy to imagine that the EU is finished but, unfortunately, the EU is still here and is now more dangerous than ever before.’

My acquaintance stared at me in disbelief.

‘Rejecting the constitution has made things worse rather than better,’ I told him. ‘We’re still in the EU and still subject to all their crazy laws. And they’re expanding their powers every day. The threat to our freedom and culture is greater than ever. The EU is the biggest single threat we have to face.’

‘I don’t know about that,’ said my acquaintance. ‘I think ID cards are a huge threat.’

‘Whose idea do you think they are?’

‘You’re kidding!’

‘No, I’m not. We’re having to introduce ID cards because the EU insists that all EU countries have them. And our drinking laws are being revised to fit in with drinking laws throughout Europe so that there is continuity among EU regions. Attempting to impose French culture on UK drivers will prove (literally) fatal. Given the opportunity to drink alcohol for 24 hours a day, English drinkers will simply binge all day and night. The EU doesn’t understand the impracticality and danger of imposing standard regulations on non-standard cultures.’

My acquaintance was clearly shocked. ‘What else don’t I know and what can I do about it? Where can I find out what’s been happening recently and what’s going on?’
