Should Fat People
Be Banned From TV?
Vernon Coleman
The Government
recently announced that it wanted to ban thin models from fashion shows and
catwalks.
They argued that thin models encourage anorexia among young
girls.
Maybe.
But the number of anorexic young women is minute
compared to the number of obese young women.
And the number of young
women who will die through being too thin is a tiny fraction of the number who
will die through being too fat.
If the Government really wants to improve
the health of the nation it should consider banning fat people from
television.
If newspapers and magazines really cared about the health of
their readers they would print pictures of famous people who are too fat -
rather than famous people who are too thin.
Fat celebrities are terrible
role models for the young.
There's a widespread feeling that fat people
are jolly and that its unfair to pick on them just because they are
overweight.
Nonsense.
No one should ever pick on private
individuals because they've eaten too much and put on too much
weight.
But fat celebrities are a different matter: they are a serious
danger to the nation's health.
Fat singers, presenters, actors,
politicians and other public figures should be locked in the closet - well away
from cameras - until they lose weight.
