Driving at 96 mph is Better for the Environment
Dr Vernon Coleman MB ChB DSc FRSA
Fact 1: Diesel engines have optimum efficiency when working at 80%
Fact 2: Petrol engines are most efficient when working at 60% to 75% of their power potential.
Fact 3: A diesel driven motor car with a top speed of 120 mph will be most efficient (and use less fuel) when doing 96mph.
Fact 4: A petrol driven motor car with a top speed of 120 mph will be most efficient when doing between 72 mph and 90 mph.
Fact 5: If the Government really wants us to use less fuel (for the sake of the environment) they should encourage motorists to drive faster not slower. And the police should be told to arrest drivers who are travelling slowly.
