My new book Briefs Encounterexplores the phenomenon of crossdressing (also known as transvestism) and explains why and how crossdressing can lead to male emancipation and a happier, healthier world.
My aim in writing this book has been to try to dispel some of the myths about crossdressing, and to try to replace some of the misunderstandings and confusion with a little clarity and light.
The book was inspired by the thousands of letters I have received from crossdressers; and, in particular, by the many who admitted their crossdressing to me in confidence, telling me that they had never before dared to share the truth about their affection for clothes more normally associated with the opposite sex.
There are, I know, huge numbers of crossdressers who dare not share their secret with anyone; there are many who fear that they might lose their jobs and their families if word gets out that they crossdress; they fear humiliation and suspect that they will be ostracised.
It seems odd to me that such a modest inclination should produce such dramatic consequences, and strange that so many in our society should get so excited about such a relatively insignificant pleasure when there are, in reality, so many other things which would more justly arouse indignation.
Looked at logically and coldly, there is no reason why crossdressing should attract more disapproval and less approbation than playing golf or collecting stamps.
Only by breaking the silence will crossdressing become acceptable; only when the whole subject is aired openly will those men who crossdress feel able to be honest about what they do. Crossdressing is only an issue because of the secretiveness associated with it. Remove the secretiveness and the shame, and crossdressing becomes just another small variation on the endlessly variegated theme of life.
