A Man with Style!
Vernon Coleman
Karl Lagerfeld, the fashion designer, died recently.
I saw him in Paris once.
I was coming out of the Deux Magots café to buy a newspaper at a nearby kiosk.
The man in front of me was Lagerfeld.
He bought a copy of the International Herald Tribune.
The lead story on the front page was of a man who had just gone bankrupt – owing $100 million.
The man was Karl Lagerfeld.
Lagerfeld, the man who owed someone $100 million, paid for his paper with a note and then (and this was the stylish bit) he handed all the change to a beggar sitting on the pavement.
I don’t know a damned thing about Lagerfeld’s clothes designing skills.
But the man had style.
