Passing Observations 114

Dr Vernon Coleman

This is a long standing series of small items which have caught my eye or mind and which seem relevant, startling, amusing or all three. Occasionally, items which appear here may return as a longer piece. Mostly they will not.

1. Heroin is six times as powerful as morphine but too rarely prescribed for patients in pain because of its reputation as an illegal drug of abuse. So patients in genuine need suffer. (Amazingly, some addicts have been taking prescribed heroin for over 20 years. This is lunacy. I always thought the idea was to get addicted patients off their drugs. Still, I’m a bit old-fashioned.)

2. Over 20 years ago I pointed out that it wasn’t possible to be `green’ or `environmentally aware’ if you ate meat. I made the suggestion in an attempt to stop people eating meat. (I love animals and am appalled at how badly animals are treated in farms, how they are transported and how they are killed.) I am mildly amused to see that my thought has now become part of the litany for the global warming cultists – but for the wrong reasons!

3. If it is true that we are what we eat, I am coffee gateau with icing and sugar `hundreds and thousands’, egg and chips, malt whisky, roast parsnips and coconut ice.

4. Most doctors get most of their information about the drugs they prescribe from the drug companies which make them. And that is scary.

5. The European Central Bank interest rate has been minus 0.5% since 2011. And now they are surprised that inflation is out of control.

6. Six per cent of Britons are certifiably insane. That’s the number who say they will vote Green at the next election.

7. What do Bilderbergers talk about? Hell knows.

8. When Prince Charles opens his mouth, Klaus Schwab speaks.

9. Copper is needed to make electric cars (and a good many other things). It is, therefore, unfortunate that the average ore grade of active copper mines has fallen from 2.5% to 0.5%. This is going to make the electrification of everything incredibly difficult (and, therefore, expensive).

10. Boris Johnson plays at being a gentleman. But he appears to have no honour, no code, no respect, no decency, no sense of responsibility. He is, therefore, not a gentleman. He is, I would suggest, more of a spiv.

11. Around 3,000 employees in Britain are receiving 100% of their pay for 80% of their work. The hope is that their productivity will rise. This is unimaginably stupid and merely part of the Great Reset. (This daft scheme was tried out before and it seemed to work. However, it seemed to work because it was tried out with civil servants whose work is difficult to measure and largely irrelevant.)

12. Life, it is said, is not determined by what you want but by the choices you make.

13. Doctors and nurses invariably address patients by their first names. But they quickly get offended if they, in turn, are addressed by their first names. This is clearly a plan to oppress patients. (I wrote a novel in which the protagonist objected strongly to this. The novel is called `Mr Henry Mulligan.’ I grew very fond of Mr Mulligan while writing the book.)

14. I planted some trees recently. Anyone over the age of 30 who plants trees is optimistic and thinking of future generations, or just plain potty. I fear I probably fall in the second category. 15. The NHS has ruled that oncology patients in hospitals should wear masks. This is crazy. Masks reduce oxygen levels. And cancer cells thrive in low oxygen levels. So this NHS ruling will lead to cancer patients developing metastases.

16. I believe that Wikipedia is the world’s most powerful promotion tool for the enemies of truth, freedom and humanity.

17. I don’t want to scare you but inflation has reached 40% in Sri Lanka. How would you survive if inflation hit 40%?

18. Over half the population will officially be in `fuel poverty’ next winter.

19. We do not have a free press. If we had a free press I would be able to write whatever I liked (as long as I didn’t break the standard laws) without being victimised or terrorised or silenced by the Government. And the media would not ban me solely because they did not like the facts I wanted to share. Ministers and journalists who talk glibly about a free press are either incredibly ignorant or incredibly crooked. The suppression of the truth has been the greatest and most effective weapon used by the conspirators.

20. Schoolchildren are being encouraged to change their gender at will and there are, I am sorry to say, doctors and officially sanctioned clinics in many countries which will provide pills and/or surgery as required.
