Why I think the Spectator magazine should be ashamed

Before he was demonised and lied about for telling the truth about covid-19, The Irish Times described Vernon Coleman as: `Probably one of the most brilliant men alive today’.
The Spectator magazine is running what it calls `a Health Summit to examine the priorities of the NHS’. The small print tells potential attendees that: `The event is in association with AbbVie and Eli Lilly and Company and is funded by both organisations.’ That seems to me to be like hiring the Yorkshire Ripper to help fund a symposium on safety for prostitutes or organising a symposium on the Ukraine in association with the descendants of the KGB. I think the Spectator should be ashamed. But I doubt if they will be. Money talks. Eli Lilly is an American drug company which in 2009 pleaded guilty to illegally marketing a drug called Zyprexa. The company paid a $1.4 billion fine which included a criminal fine. AbbVie is a biopharmaceutical company. In July 2022 the company agreed to pay $2.37 billion to settle lawsuits over the marketing of opioid painkillers. (The company was accused of deceptive marketing practices.)
What good company The Spectator does keep.
