Benzodiazepine Scandal: The Benzos Story
Dr Vernon Coleman MB ChB DSc FRSA
`In 1988 the BMA’s board of science and education held its first meeting to look at the place of benzodiazepines in the treatment of anxiety. According to a report in a medical newspaper the study group was sponsored indirectly by Wyeth, the makers of Ativan (one of the most widely prescribed benzodiazepines).’
Is it any surprise that doctors are still over prescribing benzodiazepines?
The BMA (British Medical Association) is, of course, the doctors’ trade union. The BMA’s journal carries a large amount of drug company advertising.
