Thinking ahead
Dr Vernon Coleman
However old you are, you still have to plan for the future in a positive way – or you are merely marking time, filling in the hours until the final whistle. We need plans and ambitions but most of us feel we need to be flexible enough to allow for unforeseen events without causing crises. Some courageous souls, however, can simply ignore reality and carry on regardless.
When he was seriously ill (he had laryngeal cancer and had suffered a number of heart attacks), Evan Hunter the novelist (who was also known as Ed McBain) announced that he was beginning a new series of books about a new character. He declared that he was planning 26 books and that each book would start with a title starting with a different letter of the alphabet. The first book in the series was entitled ‘Alice in Jeopardy’. Sadly, that was the only book in the series. But you have to give the man full marks for courage and for ambition.
NOTE
The above is taken from Vernon Coleman’s latest book - `Old Man in an Old Car’. To purchase a copy CLICK HERE. The book is only available as a hardcover. But please note that printing costs mean that the royalty received is considerably less than the royalty that would be paid on an eBook version. But the hardcover book looks and feels much better than a paperback.
